TINNITUS AURIUM AND IMPAIRED HEARING

Abstract

|
Tinnitus aurium and impaired hearing are common cardinal symptoms of the acoustic organ system.. When tinnitus is continuous and loud, it may actually interfere with hearing and may be so annoying as to develop neurosis. Tinnitus is often a sign of some disease of the acoustic system and it may be the only or first sign of such disease. In many instances, the cause cannot he determined.
Recently, the methods of audiometric study of tinnitus, such as a loudness balance method and a masking method, have contributed to determining some characters of tinnitus aurium to hearing disturbances.
Therefore, the author tried to review literature concerning tinnitus aurium and impaired hearing with emphasis on physiological origin, clinical classification, especially audiometrical study.
